World population growth and climate changes affect agriculture negatively and cause food problems. In addition to food problems, urban population growth also creates many socio-cultural, ecological, and economic problems. Urban agriculture is an important productive land use that combines urban and agricultural concepts for the solution of urban and food problems. This productive land use provides important functions for the sustainable development of cities by contributing positively to the social, ecological, economic, health, and visual systems of the cities. In this study, the concept of urban agriculture, its history, typologies, functions, barriers, and risks were investigated.
